Somewhere in you, one face of God feels more spiritual than the other.
That is exactly the problem.
Look around at the people you consider conscious, awakened, evolved. The ones who meditate, who speak the language of compassion and empathy and non-judgment. Now notice what happens when someone in that circle expresses fierce, unwavering conviction. Someone who believes in absolute consequence for absolute transgression. Someone who would act with ferocious precision to protect the innocent without hesitation.
There is a recoil. Subtle but unmistakable. A compassionate glance that says… you will understand one day.
A quiet repositioning that places the fierce one a few rungs lower on the ladder of consciousness.
That repositioning is its own form of spiritual violence.
And then there is the other wound. The one forged by genuine suffering, by real injustice, by wounds that deserved a fierce response… and who never came back from the forge. Who collapsed into sustained wrath. Who mistakes their pain for their dharma. Their wound for their weapon. Their bitterness for righteousness.
Both are living in half of themselves. Both are the full spectrum of Divinity collapsed into a single note.
We are living in a moment where the world is tearing itself apart precisely along this fault line. The fierce and the tender squared off against each other as though one is civilization and the other is barbarism. Both sides certain they are the righteous one. Both sides carrying exactly half the truth.
Here is what every tradition has known since the beginning and what we have collectively forgotten…
Without the fierce-leaning ones, we would have been consumed by barbaric invasion, by rampant predation, by the unchecked crushing of the innocent, long ago.
Without the soft-leaning ones, we would have no empathy, no forgiveness, no art, no healing, no love worth protecting.
Both have been essential to the human story since the beginning. Both are expressions of the same Divine source.
And both live within you, whether awakened or atrophied, whether honored or quietly judged.
This is the teaching of the full spectrum. This is your Great Remembering.
Consider the dog you love. You have raised it, fed it, held it through the night. And then it contracts rabies. The animal you love is now suffering in madness, it is dangerous, and if it reaches others it will spread that suffering further.
The fierce face of love says…end this. Swiftly. Completely. To protect the whole. And to end the animal’s own agony, its madness, its torment. To let it die in peace rather than consumed by a disease that has stolen everything it was.
This is love in its most demanding form. Love that sets aside its own grief, its own preference, its own comfort, to do what the moment actually requires.
The soft face that cannot make that choice, that weeps and hesitates while the suffering spreads, has confused its own feelings for genuine love.
I have trained in Shaolin Kung Fu for forty-five years. The Shaolin path is built on one foundational understanding…the deepest peace and the most ferocious capability are the same force, cultivated simultaneously, expressed according to what the moment requires. The monk in meditation so complete that the boundary between himself and silence becomes permeable… is the same monk trained for melee warfare, to be immediately and lethally effective when the dharma is threatened. The most peaceful being you could encounter. And the most dangerous. Both. Simultaneously. From the same source.
The full truth of what love actually is.
Every tradition encoded this. Kali and Parvati, the same goddess, destroyer and nourisher.
Jesus braiding the whip with his own hands and driving the money changers from the temple… and Jesus weeping in the dirt at the tomb of his friend.
The God of Sinai, whose presence shook mountains and brought empires to their knees… and the same God who says to his people in chains…I have loved you with an everlasting love.
Mahakala, the wrathful protector whose ferocity is his compassion made uncompromising… and Avalokiteshvara, one thousand arms reaching toward every form of suffering simultaneously.
Same source. Two medicines. Both holy.
The fierce one who has sealed off their tenderness has traded depth for force.
Force alone, without the ocean of compassion beneath it, grows brittle. Grows rigid. Becomes a single sustained note in a piece of music that requires the whole keyboard. A ferocity rooted in love returns to stillness. A ferocity rooted in pain perpetuates itself.
The soft one who has quietly elevated their compassion into a spiritual achievement has forgotten something essential. The freedom in which they practice their tenderness was purchased by someone else’s ferocity. The order within which their healing work is possible was built and maintained by those they have learned to regard as less evolved.
You are a hologram of Divinity. A drop from the sea of the totality. Every frequency. Every octave. From the lightest to the darkest expression of love.
All of it lives within the drop that you are.
The invitation is to widen. To cultivate the face you have left in the dark. To let the tenderness at the core of your ferocity breathe. To let the adamantine resolve at the core of your softness strengthen.
The face of the Divine you have been most tempted to judge in others is the face most alive and uncultivated within you.
Both faces are holy. Both are needed. And the world right now needs people who have stopped declaring war on half of themselves.
You carry both. The question has never been which face is more evolved.
The question is which one you have been afraid to meet.
I want to hear from you
Which face of love do you lean toward naturally… the fierce or the tender? And which one have you been quietly judging in others, or leaving uncultivated in yourself? Drop it in the comments. This conversation matters.
